Theatre

Since graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in the 1990s, Nicole has worked professionally in the theatre, Film&TV and entertainment industries across Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.   Although her early career was dominated by performance as an actor and singer, Nicole now focuses more on directing, playwriting and vocal coaching for the theatre and live performance events.

Directing

As a director Nicole specialises musical theatre, operetta and stylised theatrical works. She’s has also directed a number of shows for young people, from non-verbal productions for toddlers through to theatre-in-education for teenagers.

Nicole first worked as a director in the early 2000s in Perth, Australia, with companies like Spirit Productions and APAN’s forerunner Vogue Entertainment. During the more recent decade spent in Singapore, she directed for many local companies, including on multiple projects each for the Esplanade Theatres-on-the-Bay (for example Magic Island and Magic Garden), Bellepoque, ArsMedia and The National Museum of Singapore.

Play-writing

Nicole has been writing scripts for the theatre and performance events for a decade. In terms of process she writes both traditionally as an individual playwright or collaboratively with an ensemble for devised drama works. Nicole frequently is contracted by a theatre company as a playwright/director.

In addition to writing as a playwright, Nicole is a published author of non-fiction. She’s written (or co-written) seven textbooks on Drama with Impact Publishing (http://impactpublishing.com.au/shop/listings/drama/), as well as one business book on virtual-work with Marshall Cavendish (http://www.amazon.com/Working-Virtual-World-Practical-Productive/dp/9814398438).

Vocal Coaching

Nicole has been coaching other performers on their voice for over twenty-five years.   Soon after graduating from Musical Theatre at WAAPA she spent a decade as a freelance singing teacher (Bel Canto technique), before choosing in 2009 to specialise as a vocal coach.

Nicole now works with performers on both their singing and spoken voice. She’ll often coach actors individually when they’re preparing for an audition or an upcoming performance. Nicole is also hired by a theatre company to vocal coach for a specific production.
